New Camera & Hardware for Tesla Model S & Model X
New cameras and related hardware have been spotted on Tesla Model S and Model X units produced in Fremont, California, by social media influencers The Kilowatts. These models also come with Tesla's new round steering wheel option, which had not previously been shipped.
Tesla decided to offer the refreshed Model X and Model S with a round steering wheel option following pushback from owners, media outlets, and safety organizations.
While the round steering wheels are not significant, their availability confirms that Tesla has now produced and shipped them.
Tesla is reportedly planning to release its Hardware 4 setup soon, which was expected to debut with the Cybertruck. However, there are indications that the new hardware suite could already be making its way into select new vehicles, given the absence of ultrasonic sensors and the presence of several new cameras in the Model S and Model X units spotted by The Kilowatts.
Various leaks and government documents suggest that Tesla's Hardware 4 setup has 11 camera slots. The Kilowatts, who are experienced Tesla owners, have shared their findings on social media, and their observations have been corroborated by popular Tesla hacker @greentheonly.
The purpose of bringing the new hardware suite into some current vehicles is unclear, and it remains to be seen if it means the Cybertruck's release will be delayed.
