Rimmel Glam Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara

Thursday, February 23, 2012

I picked this mascara up at Target when it was on clearance ($2.00) a couple months ago. I don't really know much about Rimmel cosmetics aside from their much adored lipsticks (I love Airy Fairy!).

This mascara is pretty standard but the cute packaging really stood out. I love the rose gold top part and their signature crown... reminded me of Juicy Couture.

I love the wand! It's skinny and perfect for people with barely visible lashes like myself. The wand is also flexible so you can coat every lash in any angle. I think it works for me because it lengthens considerably and delivers acceptable volume and definition.

The formula is on the drier side. This is a good thing for me because too-hydrating mascaras can weigh down your lashes. Drier formulas keep it light so you can hold your curl longer. I personally don't have a preference to which formulas I use as long as the mascara itself is noticeable without being flaky.

Below are creepy macro sized eye shots.. O_O

Overall, I'd say this is a very natural looking mascara. It doesn't clump and it lasts all day for me. Mascara in general is very subjective and it looks different on everyone. While this is a pretty good mascara, it is not exceptional. I still prefer my Maybelline and Loreal ones over this particular one but I think I'd be happy to try others from Rimmel. This one is probably going to be discontinued since it was on clearance but I still see them on shelves at other drugstores.

And for my readers, is there really a difference in high end mascara vs. drugstore? Please share your thoughts!

I've tried this and I actually like the original pink/black tube one better! I agree that it's a natural mascara

Your lashes look long :)

I heard good things about this product, but haven't try it yet. 2 bucks is a great deal, I never found anything like this at Target, they all gone, I wish I have a Target nearby. Thanks for the review. My fav mascara still Maybelline Lash Stiletto and Maybelline Falsies.

I tried both high and low mascaras, and haven't find one that works for my oily lids. Do you have a recommendation? Despite what the product says (waterproof, smudge-free...), after perhaps 4-5 hours of wear I would see black smudges below my waterline.

Hey, thanks so much for sharing! My HGs are the Maybelline fatty tubes, and I've heard good things about L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes so I might give it a try soon!

I've tried some high-end mascaras, but I haven't had the luck to find one that works for me. For the moment I'm sticking to drugstore ones instead :) It's budget-friendly and works better (for me), so it's a win-win!

Ooh that looks really natural on you! I like the thin brush, seems like it'll be good for applying on lower lashes too. I've never been a big fan of Rimmel mascaras - prefer Loreal and Maybelline too!

I've not tried a high end mascara yet as I can't justify spending so much when I can find cheaper one that work great.

i got this mascara on clearance as well from cvs. like you said, mascara is pretty subjective and it didn't perform as well as i need it to. in short, it doesn't hold up my lashes. i'm using it for my under eye lashes instead.

That looks like some good mascara!! I've only been using covergirl lashblast for a long time...and I've been thinking of branching out to trying out different kinds...when I have more money haha! Thanks for the review!

Certainly looks natural and pretty. I totally agree that hydrating formulas weigh down lashes.

I would like to try this one.

It looks great on your lashes! :D Never tried Rimmel's mascaras before.
I really don't think there's much of a difference between high end or low end when it comes to mascaras. I always get the same results regardless!

I find it such a waste to buy high end mascara. Especially if you follow the whole 3 month rule (which I don't). The mascara looks very natural on you, when I tried it, it was clumpy and gross =(

WHat a great deal for a mascara! I've never came across such great deals in Canada :( I never tried Rimmel mascara before but this one looks good on you! As for the difference between drugstore and high-end mascara, I honestly don't notice a big difference. I do prefer drugstore mascara but it's just a matter of finding the right one for you. :)

we don't have this brand here but i think it looks great on you! :)

I've never tried Rimmel mascaras before. I normally stick to Maybelline since I've had the most luck with them. This one gives a very natural boost to your lashes though - it does a pretty good job of adding some volume and length :)

You are so lucky to have beautiful lashes! Rimmel mascaras do not work for my short, thin, sparse and generally pathetic Asian lashes...

ShinyPrettyThings February 24, 2012 12:26 AM

wow only $2, great buy!! i think it doesn't really matter if it's drugstore or high end. as long as it's waterproof, it's fine w me! my asian lashes always droop when it's not waterproof. doesn't matter how much i spend on that mascara T_T

I haven't tried out Rimmel mascaras before and this looks really natural, I think it might be good for the no makeup makeup type of look.

Nice ^^ i think its time for me to invest in some new mascaras, any reccommendations? :) i dont own any high end mascaras so i cant really say if there's a dofference or not ><

Great review! I was thinking about getting this mascara and trying it out!

Laces & Shades: People swear by Shiseido's waterproof mascaras :p Or..prep your lids with an beige eyeshadow before you put on mascara. It should help w/oil!

Maggie February 25, 2012 12:36 PM

I'm a faithful Maybelline Mascara user! I can't justify spending more than $10 on something I'd have to throw out after a couple months, so drugstore is the way to go for me :)

Eden-Avalon February 25, 2012 6:15 PM

Having purchased a few high end mascaras, I can't say i've seen a difference. You're supposed to throw them out every 6 months so it seems like too much money to spend on something so quickly tossed out.

EveryDay Makeup blog February 26, 2012 3:28 PM

mascara reviews are one thing I keep forgetting to do lol. This one looks great. It's on the natural side. And you're right about dryer formulas. They hold up the curl better.

Blackmentos March 2, 2012 9:41 PM

Ooo...yes they look like they're given your lashes volume and a bit more length! After trying two of their mascaras...both a complete FAIL on me, I haven't bothered with any of their others! I'm just going to stick to maybelline and herione for my HG mascaras! :)
